Best Frosted Strawberry Tart: Pop-Tarts Breakfast Toaster Pastries Frosted Strawberry

Welcome to our Strawberry Breakfast Pastry Smackdown! We did a blind taste test with a panel of kids (and their parents) to find the best strawberry tarts.

And the winner for best overall taste was not much of a surprise: Kellogg’s Pop-Tarts took the crown!

Here’s what folks thought:

What We Liked

• Best strawberry flavor.

• Soft.

• Made in the USA.

• Affordable.

What Needs Work

• Contains high fructose corn syrup.

• Break too easily in the package.

• Artificial coloring.

• 30 grams sugar per serving!

Best Gluten-Free Tart: Bobo’s TOASTeR Pastry Strawberry Jam

For our gluten-free friends, we tried out 4 brands of strawberry breakfast pastries that had no gluten. The winner was Bobo’s—they provided the best combination of flavor and texture.

What We Liked

 Tasty!

• More like a granola bar than a pastry . . . but our taste tasters like that!

• Dairy free.

• Vegan.

• Made in Boulder, Colorado . . . our home town.

• Kosher.

• No GMO’s.

What Needs Work

• Pricey.

• More strawberry filling, please!

• Not everyone liked the more dense texture.

• No frosting!

Best Organic Strawberry Tart: Nature’s Path Frosted Berry Strawberry Toaster Pastries

If you like the name brand strawberry pastry but would prefer something more organic (and without the artificial colors and high fructose corn syrup), we’d recommend Nature’s Path Frosted Berry Strawberry Toaster Pastries. They topped our taste tests for best organic strawberry tart.

What We Liked

• Frosting!

• Quite tasty!

• Organic ingredients.

• No artificial colors.

• No artificial flavors.

• No high fructose corn syrup.

What Needs Work

• More icing, please.

• High sugar content: one serving (2 tarts) of this treat has 38 grams of sugar and 420 calories. Yep, that is more sugar and calories than the non-organic recommendation at the top of this article! Go figure.

Best Unfrosted Tart: Pop-Tarts Strawberry Unfrosted Toaster Pastries

Our taste tasters tried out several unfrosted strawberry tarts. When it came to best taste overall, Kellogg’s Pop-Tarts again took the crown, this time in the unfrosted tart category.

What We Liked

• Tastes more like fruit than sugar, say fans of unfrosted tarts. We see their point, but . . . no frosting?

• 13% less sugar than the frosted version.

• Soft texture!

• Great for the toaster.

What Needs Work

• Easy to break in package.

• More calories (per serving) than the frosted version!
