Finding the Best Hose Holder: Tips & Advice

Let’s talk the best hose holders!

When it comes to storing a garden hose, you have three basic choices:

• Free-standing hose holders. As the name implies, these are staked into the ground and can hold an average-size hose (say, 25-50 feet).

• Wall-mounted holders. The advantage of these holder is they can typically hold a bigger hose—up to 125 feet. On the downside, they have to be installed . . . which can be tricky depending on the exterior material of your home.

• Hose pots. These holders are great at disguising your garden hose—once inside, the tangles of hose disappear!

Newer to the market are hose holders that slide over a spigot—no installation needed. These are great, with a caveat: the water spigot can’t be too close to the ground. And generally, these devices are better with shorter hoses.

We tried out several hose holders, noting which ones were best for different uses. Here are the ones that came out on top.
