Best Non-Stick Pan: Amagabeli Nonstick Perforated Baguette Pan

What better way to find the best pan for French baguettes than to take 11 pans from different brands and start baking? Which performed best? Was easy to clean? Affordable?

After the loaves were baked, our pick for best overall French bread pan is Amagabeli’s non-stick perforated baguette pan—this heavy duty pan can bake 4 loaves at a time. Here’s why we like it:

What We Liked

• Good performance with even heating.

• Dishwasher safe.

• Easy to clean.

• Made of carbon steel.

• Non-stick! We had no trouble removing the baguettes from the pan.

What Needs Work

• Sharp corners.

• Coating durability? We see a few reports that the non-stick coating came off on the bread, although we didn’t see this in our tests. Perhaps those were defective units?

Best Budget-Friendly Pan: Chicago Metallic Commercial II Non-Stick Perforated Baguette Pan

When we road test bread pans, we always look for the best performer that is also easy on the wallet. For French bread, we’d suggest this one by Chicago Metallic (Commercial II Non-Stick Perforated Baguette Pan). It performed just as well as pans that cost two or three times the price.

What We Liked

• Nicely crisped crust on bottom!

Easy to clean thanks to non-stick coating.

• Dishwasher safe.

• Heavy-weight aluminized steel.

• Affordable.

What Needs Work

• Only works up to 450 degrees. That’s not hot enough for some baguette recipes.

• Durability. The non-stick coating has only so many baking cycles, according to reports we see. For the average baker, however, it should work for several years. Hand-washing should extend the life, in our opinion.

Best Mini Baguette Pan: Lekue 4 Cavity Micro Perforated Mini Baguette Baking Pan

For mini baguette enthusiasts, we tried out a few pans before deciding Lekue’s mini baguette pan is best. Yes, it is made of silicone, but is a strong performer nevertheless. It was our favorite pan for folks who want something to make mini baguettes . . . or even hot dog buns.

What We Liked

• Easy to clean.

• Freezer safe.

• Dishwasher safe.

• Also great for hot dog buns!

• Non-stick coating did its job in our tests!

• Excellent for re-creating Subway sandwich bread at home.

What Needs Work

• Square bottom = odd shaped loaves. This didn’t bother us, but we know some mini baguettes purists may not be happy.

• Performs better if you put it on a sheet pan. That’s because the silicone is rather flexible and can be a bit unwieldy to remove from the oven by itself.

Best Silicone Baguette Pan: Silicone Perforated Baking Forms

We think Partyon’s Silicone Perforated Baking Form was a good value and performer. Made of silicone and fiberglass, it works up to 500 degrees—excellent for those special baguette recipes that require higher heat.

What We Liked

• Excellent for sub sandwich-type French breads.

• Bakes evenly.

• Easy to clean.

• Non-stick.

• BPA free.

• Affordable.

What Needs Work

• Thin.

• Performs best when used with a sheet pan underneath. That’s an extra bit of hassle!
