After spending several hours researching this topic, including talking with a company that makes gold-dipped roses, we realized there are few important tips for this purchase. Here are a some key points to keep in mind:

• Most gold-dipped roses are actually edged in gold—that is, the flower, leaves and edged in 24-carat gold. That said, we also found a rose recommended by our readers that is completely dipped in gold (see later in this article). That is more expensive, of course.

• Consider the presentation box and packaging as well. The best gold-dipped roses come in an impressive-looking box that should include a stand to hold/display the rose.

• Most gold-dipped roses are “forever roses.” What is a forever rose? Forever roses occupy a space between fresh and silk—they ARE fresh roses that have been treated with preservatives. Exactly how that process works varies from maker to maker, but most use a solution that keeps the rose’s structure and shape. Yes, forever roses are often bleached and dehydrated, then colored/dyed to a desired hue (in most cases, red, of course).

One important piece of advice: most gold-dipped roses are fragile! Take care when handling.
