Finding the Best Water Filter For Your RV: Tips & Advice

Finding the right water filter for your RV is mission critical. First, let’s talk about what these filters and can’t do.

RV water filters help improve the taste of potable water you find at a RV park, campground other other site.

These filters are not for making non-potable water potable, however!

We asked the RV enthusiasts among our parent readers for their tips and advice when it came to selecting a water filter for their RV. Here are some key takeaways we learned:

• RV water filters should be replaced every three to 12 months, depending on how heavy your water usage.

• Most filters have an activated carbon charcoal filter—they filter out the taste of chlorine. Physical filters also get rid of sediment or other impurities. A few filters also can filter bacteria.

• Flexible hose connectors are helpful. This helps reduce kinking, as the weight of a hose connected to an RV can cause it to sag—and reduce water flow. Some filters include a flexible hose connector.

• When you first attach these filters to a water supply hose, run the water for few minutes before hooking up to your RV. This flushes out the carbon dust in the filter (the water will look black at first, which tends to freak folks out, understandably).

• The best filters have KDF media. This stands for Kinetic Degradation Fluxion—this copper/zinc formulation uses a chemical process to remove scale, bacteria, algae, and other chemicals depending on the type.

We researched a dozen different water filters for RV’s, comparing their performance and price. Here are the ones we thought were best:
